Responding to question concerning William & Nancy Alexander of Douglas County Missouri in 1880.Previously of Kentucky in 1870.Silas, b. 1870, I believe to be husband of Louisa Umphres (b. 1892, listed as orphanin 1900 census, living with Hicks family). They were married in 1909 in Douglas County.Silas received 160 acres from gov't and farmed by Vanzant.Jobe also received 80 acres from gov't and farmed next to Silas.William (not sure if father or son) also farmed 40 or 80 acres there, too.Ben was killed by a falling tree, when he and some friends were racing to see who could cut them down the fastest.Jobe & wife Eliza (Shaw)lost a girl at about one years old.Silas & Louisa had Dewey James Alexander 15 Dec 1910.There is also supposed to be another son - possible name of Richard or Wesley (memory fails here) unless it was a cousin.Silas died in Ava jail in January 1919 of pneumonia, had been incarcerated, awaiting transfer to asylum, for insanity. From there, I have lost Lou's trail, and Dewey's brother.Dewey always went by "James", not Dewey.James settled in Pueblo, Colorado, married Myrtle L. Bitner and had 10 children.
