Is it possible that your James Alexander is my Jim Alexander, my Great-uncle, born in the 1860s in a BlackHawk Cherokee village in Artesian, Mississippi, near Tupelo, Mississippi and went to McNairy County, Tennessee with his Dad, Jacks Alexander( from North Carolina) and his brother, Will Alexander, sister, Louvenia Louise Alexander, my Great-grandmother, and 1/2 brother, Sidney Robinson, called Sid?Their Mom, Georgianna Alexander(Maiden name unknown) had been born in that same village. She died of exposure, while her children were young and since the U.S. government disbanded their village, their Dad took them to Tennessee.
Georgianna had a sister India Washington. I don't know if that was her maiden or married name.
Jim Alexander later married an Elsie_____ in Mississippi, and when he died, she went back to Pa.
