Dear Mary:I have Andrew Alexanders.Back to Rev. James Andrew and Mary (Maxwell) Alexander, said to be parents of the 7 boys and 2 girls from Scotland via Ireland, my ancestor was Samuel (for sake of brevity, I will not mention wives), one of the 7..... Andrew....(sons Moses, Andrew, Benjamin and dau. Joanna).Benjamin is my direct line from Samuel...Andrew.My Benjamin had son Andrew. Most if not all of the family moved from Somerset/Cecil Co., MD, to Mecklenburg Co., NC, eventually.Benjamin prob. m. in PA as two sons born Bucks Co., PA.
A son of my Benjamin was Capt. Wm. "Black Bill" Alexander.A Lt. Andrew Alexander served under him.Later, in a census, a Capt Andrew was in the same area if not the same household as my Wm and some other family members. Was he the brother of Benjamin and therefore the son of Andrew of Somerset Co., MD?Or was he the son ofBenjamin and the brother of Wm. "Black Billy" Alexander?I do not know. But, probably not Benjamin's son, Andrew, since I have him b. about 1777 and according to you, your Andrew was born about 1749, when my Wm. Black Billy Alexander was born (Benjamins spread of ages is wide, and no doubt, some are speculative).
It is estimated that Benjamin (bro. of Andrew and both sons of Andrew of Somerset Co., MD) born about 1725.Only Moses' age is known of all the children of Andrew of Somerset: 1739.So, ca 1725, ca 1739, gives a more reasonable b. date for your Andrew at 1749.
Let me know what you figure out.Mac of Cypress, TX.
