The estate of Daniel Alexander of Bell co TX c 1853 contains an affidavit of Ingraham Duncan.He recounts what he knows of the Alexander Alexander family of Lincoln co Maine.I have transcribed it as it was written:
I Ingraham Duncan of the Town of Rockland in the County of Lincoln and State of Maine on oath depose and say that I was fifty nine years of age March the twentieth A D 1855.
That I resided in the Town of Northport, County of Waldo, Maine from the time of my birth up to the year Eighteenhundred fifty three and was well acquainted with Mr. Alexander Alexander of the town of Northport who was drawn (drowned?) at Castine Maine in the [word “year” omitted] eighteen hundred and six the widow of said Alexander died in the year eighteenhundred and fifty three.
I was Also acquainted with all their children their Oldest was Jane who married a Mr. Cram of Thorndike Maine and died in the year eighteenhundred and fortyone.
Daniel Alexander the second child was in the war of 1812-14 and returned to Northport to visit his friends in the year eighteenhundred and fifteen and again in eighteenhundred twenty three when I saw him at his brother William’s in Northport and he soon left for the south again.
The third was Mathew Alexander who went to the Southern States in the year eighteen hundred and sixteen and has not been heard from for many years.
William the fourth child married my sister and always resided in Northport up to the time of his death in June eighteenhundred thirty seven.
Hugh Alexander the fifth child is well known to me and is know [now?] present I have been acquainted with said Hugh from a boy up to the present time and know him to be a brother of said Daniel.
Mary the sixth child married a man by the name of Gardner and the last time I saw her she informed me she resided in Massechusetts (sic).
James the seventh is still living in Rockland Maine.
I further depose and say that the said Alexander Alexander and his family and his son William Alexander and his family are the only men by that name ever living in said Northport.
State of Maine Lincoln County May 2nd 1855 – Be it known that the above signed Ingraham Duncan who is personal (sic) Known to me appeared at my office when and where was present Hugh Alexander, Esq of Linmeus (?) County of Anoostook (and who has written his name with his own hand hereupon and to whom this affidavit is by me delivered) and subscribed and made oath to the truth of the said affadavit (sic) – In token whereof I have hereunto set and seal of office the day and year above written.
