Martha and Beau Thought I would update the forum with our current data
First and foremost it is very doubtfull that Nany Murdoch or Allen Ulysses Alexander were born anywhere but Maryland or Pennsylvania.
James and Rosanna Chambers Alexander came to NC from Elkton Maryland by way of Augusta County Virginia. I believe that many of the Black steel and Alexander relatives stayed in Augusta and were memebrs of the Tinkling Springs Church I have been to the cemetery and our sirnames are prevalent.
Tradition says many imigrants spent one or more seasons in Augusta Virginia before heading further on the NC.
It is believed that James and Rosanna Chambers had the following Children: Allen Ulysses Alexander Married Nancy Murdoch daughter of James Agnes (possibly Wilson) Murdock buried third creek cemmetery statesville. Margaret Alexander married Joseph Steele
William Alexander md Ann ?
Rowland Alexander married Eleanor Murdoch sister of Nancy
Gabriel Alexander married Jean Black daughter of David
There were atleast five brothers and the one daughter and perhaps more daughters as Thomas Snoddy is a likely brothernlaw.
Many of these families went to Tenn and tthen Bourbon County Kentucky.
Allen Ulysses Alexander and Nancy Murdock had the following known Children: Nancy Married James Houston and went west James Ulysses married Delilah Templeton David Zacheus Moses married Polly Wilson uncle Moses was a Justice of the peace. Allen married Susan Bogle William Rosanna married first Andrew Morrison and then David Dickey it is her daughter Nancy Dickey in grandmother Nancy's will.
Family tradition may say that Allen U was born in Scotland but it is more logical that he was born in Maryland and that his Father James is a descendant of one of the Seeven Alexander brothers the sons of Reverend James of Raphoe who came to Maryland. This has not yet been proven but we do know allen and Nancy had land in Mecklenburg County that they sold upon taking upon residence on Elk Schoals. We also know that they lived in Mecklenburg for ten years after acquiring the Land Grand due to hostile indian occupation along the Catawba River.
What we must do now is find the link between James Alexander allens Father and the other alexanders of Elkton and Cecil maryland and Chester Pa.
Although Grandfather Allen U Alexanders bible has never surfaced uncle Rowlands has and it is Clear that Eleanor Murdock was his first wife and he had a son named James ans a son Zacheus. He also had a daughter Rosanna as did Uncle Gabriel and Grandfather allen.
Zacheus Wilson signer of the Mecklenburg Constitution may be linked to the Murdochs and that may be the root to our Zacheus Alexanders in Rowland and Allen's families.
**** Side note Aunt Rosanna Alexander Morrison Dickey was deceased when her mother made her will. further note Allen Alexander manages her Husband Andrew Morrisons estate when he dies.
Through land transactions it would appear that Andrew and Rosanna Alexander Morrison may have lived next door to James and Delilah templeton Alexander on Elks shoals creek. This land was later sold to the Snoddy Family on behalf of Andrew And Rosannas son and then purchased by my ancestor James Leander Alexander and his wife Jenny Lewis. this land today is in Alexander county. The Morrison/Snoddy /Alexander tract is on County Line Road alexander County NC near the crossroads of Sharon School Rd Stewart rock,Paul payne and County Line Roads. It is Owned By Mrs George alexander.
Directly adjacent is the James and Delilah templeton Alexander Tract which ceded to Ephraim Alexander and then his son Baxter and then To the Dagenharts, and is now owned by Mary and Esker Elder and is Parallel to Paul payne Road and starts near the head of Marvin Church road.
To find the Site of Allen Ulysses Alexander's Grant you need simply head toward taylorsville on the Paul payne rd and take a right onto the Elk Schoals Loop. You will pass the Elk Shoals ARP Church and then you will eventually come to a sharp curve in the rd. where you must bare right at the jucture to your far left is the sight of Allens Cabin and Grant. The land is currently owned by the heirs of Atwell Alexander, and sadly for the first time in over 242 years the land may pass out of the sirname Alexander as Atwell left no Male Alexander Heir.
