(06/16/2003)Charles DeWitt Alexander, age 81, of Red Rock, Texas, passed from this life on Saturday, June 14, 2003. He was born September 7, 1921, at Red Rock to Dee and Vivian (Watterson) Alexander. DeWitt was a veteran of World War II, who served in the US Army. He was married to LaVerne (Meuth) Alexander on April 12, 1958, at Rockne. As a life-long resident of Bastrop County he was a rancher, pecan grower, and owner/operator of Alexander Feed, Seed, and Fertilizer of Bateman and Bastrop for more than 30 years. His feed store became the domino headquarters for a multitude of players from the surrounding area. He was a 50 year member of VFW Post 2527 and a member of Post 533 American Legion. He was a true supporter of many local charities and organizations, especially the Bastrop Area Livestock Show Association. Memorial contributions may be made to the show association in care of Margaret Hanna, FNB, P.O. Drawer F, Bastrop, Texas 78602. A visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m., Monday, followed by a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. at the Marrs-Jones-Newby Funeral Home, Bastrop. Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockne, with Deacon Roger Muehr officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Rockne. His parents and a granddaughter, Christine Henderson Greenwood, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, LaVerne (Meuth) Alexander of Red Rock; a son, Charles Dee Alexander of Red Rock; and daughter and son-in-law, Rose and Robert Henderson; grandchildren, Steven Henderson and Jennifer Henderson of Red Rock; and a sister, Rozelle Martin of Cedar Creek.
