Hi, Mac -- There seems to be conflicting evidence about the indentity of two Charles Alexanders of Mecklenburg origins -- I've come to believe that the Charles you mention above, who married "Margaret" and who died in Mecklenburg in 1834, was Chas. Alexander, Jr., son of Charles Sr. and Jean Polk. As such, he was the grandson not of Benjamin & Susannah Polk Alexander, but the grandson of William & Agnes Alexander, and the nephew of Col. Adam Alexander of Clear Creek, Mecklenburg. Two separate pension applications lend a little light on the subject -- One, which I believe to have been your Charles, who married Margaret, states birth was in 1762.The other -- that of Charles Alexander of Maury County, TN -- states birth was in 1755.This Maury County Pensioner, Leonidas Polk refers to in his writings as "Old Charley Alexander", "A full cousin of my father".(Father of Leonidas being William, son of Thomas Polk, who was the brother of Susannah Polk Alexander, wife of Benjamin.)I feel this links the Maury County Pensioner (who also died 1834, but in Tennessee) to Benjamin and Susannah, whereas the Charles you name above died in Mecklenburg in that same year. Confusing coincidences, but I think father of Charles Grandison was Charles, Jr., son of Charles, Sr. Would be very interested in any evidence that might shed new light on this, though -- My theories are always "fickle" when new evidence appears !
