Adding further to the confusion is "my" line of 3 brothers, Archibald (b. 1708), William and Andrew who left Cty. Donegal ca. 1730 and settled originally in Pa. After about 10 years, to Augusta Cty., Va., then to Ky. (my branch), N.C. and Ga. This branch also left Scotland for Donegal during the "reign" of Oliver Cromwell. My g granddad told us that they were forced out of Scotland since Cromwell was persecuting anyone who didn't follow his version of Protestantism (these Alexanders were all Presby.). Granddad said the Irish Catholics welcomed these Protestants to Ireland since they had one thing in common--they all hated Cromwell.
