Vicki, I no longer have your email address and on the forum it is hidden, so hope you are still monitoring the forum.Here is what I have found the past few days on Hiram and other Allens in Jackson Co. Ga and Talladega Co. Al.Ann I'm also mailing this to you direct.If either of you would like the file on Allens, let me know. Patsy
?Here is what I have found on Hiram Allen.He is on the 1830 Jackson Co. GA census index, although I couldn’t find him on the images. Other Allens in Jackson Co. GA on the 1830 census were:
Robert Allen 3 males under 5, one male 5-10, one male 30-40, one female under 5, one female 15-20 and one female 20-30
Beverly Allen 3 males under 5, one male 5-10, one male 30-40, 3 females 5-10, 1 female 30-40
France Allen free colored person. 5 males under 10, one female under 10 and one female 24-36
Alexander Allen was listed on the Jackson Co. Ga. Index, but was on the Jasper Co. Ga image 1 male 5-10, 1 male 10-15, 1 male 15-20, 2 males 20-30, 1 male 30-40, and one male 40-50, 2 females 15-20 one female 40-50
Elizabeth Allen also on Jackson Co. Index but on Jasper Co. Ga census images. One male under 5, 1 female under 5, 1 female 10-15 and one female 30-40
Also listed in Jackson Co. Index but I can’t find on the images are;
Titus G. F Allen, in 45th Subdivision Isham Allen 45th Subdivision
I would be willing to bet that these two are either Hiram’s brothers or else one is the father, the other a brother.Hiram named a son Isom/Isham and another son was named Titus G. Allen.
Hiram Allen is on the 1840 Census in Jackson Co. GA.He has a lot more children from the first wife than we know of.
1 male under 5 1 male 5-10 1male 10-15 2 males 15-20 1 male 20-30 (believe this to be son Isom B. Allen b. abt 1820) 1 male 40-50 (Hiram)
1 female under 5 (believe this to be Elizabeth b. 1838) 1 female 5-10 1 female 15-20
So if all of these are children of Hiram and his first wife, Carna, then there were 9 children from that marriage.Making a lot more kin out there somewhere.Any Allen descendant, who have ancestors from that area of Georgia and in the correct time span needs to check further on these children.
Hiram is on the 1850 Jackson Co. GA census. I think both of you have this information. I don’t know where he was in 1860, still in GA or already moved to Alabama.By the 1870 Census he is in Talladega Co. Alabama living in Munford.Hiram is a blacksmith his age is given as 77, (it seems he is never sure on his age, Cythia is sure, her age almost always coincides with her actual age.She is age 56 on the census.Neither can read nor write.Only two children are still at home, Columbus age 26 and a new son, that I didn’t have, William age 17.He was born in GA. So the family moved sometime after 1853.Neither of the boys can write, but both can read.
Columbus and William both were listed as single, Columbus was a farm laborer.Columbus got married shortly after the census was taken, if his daughter’s Mary A. age is correct.I have her born about 1871. Still don’t have a clue who the wife was of the two daughters, Mary and Cynthia Allen (Willmon).
I’m still trying to figure out where Columbus’s two daughters from the first marriage were on the 1880 census.Mary was born about 1871 and Cynthia 1873.It seems his first wife had died, or else they were divorced before 1875 as that is when he married Rachel Evelyn Lloyd.Where were the girls?Did my great grandmother refuse to raise these two girls?Could I have had that horrible of a great grandma? Was this the secret that my aunt didn’t want found out?From what I’ve read on her, she was well loved and liked by many.Is that why they aren’t on the 1880 Calhoun Co. Al. census with the family?Whose home were they being raised in?They aren’t in Hiram’s home on the 1880 census as he is living with his daughter and her husband,Cynthia and Robert Smith Parker.Were they with the other grandparents?If so, who were these grandparents?
It seems as if I find out one answer and have a dozen more. If any of you can add to this information please contact me.I f you would like for me to send you an updated Allen file let me know and I will be glad to send to you.
