Randall, thanks for the reply.
Do you know any more of the Bouldson family? And was Miss Bouldson John's first or second wife?
I'm glad you mentioned Edward's invasion of France! I've been trying to think of some historical event that might explain John's migration to England from France. Do you think there's any possibility that Hugh is John's father?
I've seen one of the site's Ray Alley's will translation is on, and another one of the will's he translated was from a Willelmus Alley. What interests me about Willelmus other than the fact that he was from the same place where John Alley lived and his last name was Alley, is the fact that he was roughly about the right age to be John Alley's father. According to Ray Alley, Willelmus didn't mention a son named John, but one named "Willemo". Some sources I've seen list William as a brother to John Alley. I'm wondering if William and Willemo are the same person.
Also, Willelmus's wife's name was Isabelle. The same source that listed William as John's brother, listed a sister named Isabelle. So, it reasons to say that Isabelle was either a very popular name during the time, or else that the Isabelles were perhaps related.
I'm just grasping at straws, but I've been curious about it. Unless proven otherwise, I think Willelmus is a strong candidate for John's father.
