Re: Jonathan ALLINGTON/ELLINGTON of Virginia
I wonder if any of you Ellington/Allington researchers are aware of old Jonathan Ellington's last wife. Her maiden name was Downey Downing, and she was the widow of a man born about the 1770s VA named Obadiah Hooper, who had died in 1813 in Madison Co., IL. Sometime between 1820 and 1828, she remarried to Johnathan Ellington, with whom she and some of her Hooper children were enumerated in 1830 Sangamon Co., IL, page 188, line 6
Jonathan Ellington 001100001-0001001.
She apparently died before 1840. In David Ellington's 1840 Dewitt County, IL was a very old man (listed as over 100 years old) who probably was David's father Johnathan. No woman in the home is old enough to be Downey.
Evidence for the fact of Downey (Downing) Hooper's marriage to Johnathan Ellington is given in the intestate probate of Thomas Hooper (former father-in-law to Downey), who died in 1826 in Greenville, SC. She and husband Johnathan Ellington and some of her Hooper offspring signed a power of attorney regarding that estate and identifying their residences in Illinois.
