Dear Chris,
In just a few minutes my wife (Phyllis) and I are leaving on a trip up to her folks in the Morro Bay area. So I will have to postpone my long winded talk on the Altstatt's for a week.
But just to get a short word in - - - We have traced the Altstatt line back to Caspar Altstadt (1673). Caspar's oldest son, Martin, came to America with his family in 1729 and settled in Berks Co., PA. After the Revolutionary War the family spread westward - - Thomas Alstott, a grandson of Martin came to Arkansas in 1840. Of Thomas and Mary Covert Alstott's three sons, John, Thomas and Daniel, your Alstott roots are from the line of John Warner Alstott (later Altstatt, after the Civil War). John Warner's oldest child was Mary (as I understood "Ann" instead of "Elizabeth" - - explain that one). Gene Altstatt is a descendant of Mary's brother, Thomas Franklin Altstatt and lives in Berryville, AR.
Will have more when we return next weekend.
I would appreciate anything you have on Mary Elizabeth's current line along with dates. I am in the process of updating the www.altstatt.org website with current charts and the Thomas Altstatt line is huge!!!!
till later, cuz Jerry
