Amy name very common in Jersey (near France) 2004

Hi all, I'm an English Amy. My grandfather came from Jersey, an island between France and England. The name is VERY common there, with thousands of listings in the phone book. For some reason my uncle and his family decided to change the spelling of his surname to Amey!
The genes have been well mixed over here, my grandmother was Irish, my father married an Austrian and I married a Swede. I remember many years ago looking in a book for derivation of names and it mentioned a French woman, sort of Joan of Arc, Boadacea type. Does anyone have anything sorted from the early days.
