Lavinia Anderson born 11 April 1789 Greenville, SC daughter of proven Revolutionary Solider Baily Anderson b. 11 Nov. 1754 Stafford Co. VA d. 1 Aug. 1840 Harrison Co. TX and his wife Mary (Maiden name unproven).Lavinia was married only once on 24 Feb. 1806 in Warren Co. KY to Mr. William Kirby b. 15 Feb. 1785 Henry Co. VA died 30 March 1846 Warren Co. KY he was the son of proven Revolutionary Solider Jesse Kirby b. 25 Oct. 1757 VA died 17 Dec. 1852 Warren Co. KY and his wife Sophia Choice Kirby b. 23 Sept.1760 died 11 July 1853 (Sophia is the daug. of proven Rev. War Patriot Tully Choice.)The birth and death dates of all these people come from their tombstones. Lavinia's stone is now destroyed however it was transcribed in 1958 by Mrs. Allie Reeder, avid genealogist of Warren Co. KY.The stone read: Lavinia, consort of W. Kirby born April 11, 1789 died Dec. 6, 1820.The Kirby family cemetery is on the old family farm in the Drakes Creek area of Warren Co. KY.
During William & Lavinia's marriage seven (7) known children were born. They were: Mary "Polly" Kate b. 19 Dec. 1808 d. 28 Aug. 1890 buried Salem Chuch Cemetery in East Simpson Co. KY she married 25 Nov. 1823 James W. Herrington, 10 children born to their marriage;
William Wiat Kirby b. 1809 died January 8, 1865 Warren Co. KY buried family cemet. plot he married first 14 Aug. 1827 Warren Co. KY to Elizabeth Graham 3 childrenborn , he married secondly on Dec. 6, 1845 tothe Widow Mary Arsher Smithson Prater - 3 children born to their marriage;
Jesse Anderson Kirby b. 4 April 1811 died 7 Aug 1881 buried Old Union Baptist Church Cem. w/a tombstone Warren Co. KY he married 6 April 1833 Warren Co. KY to Miss Mary Ann "Rebecca" Tibbs b. 26 Feb, 1813 KY d. 10 May 1888 buried Old Union Baptist Church Cem. w/a tombstone Warren Co. KY.There were seven children born to this marriage including my direct line Joshia Davis Kirby;
Elizabeth Kirby born 29 June 1813 died 29 Dec. 1826 unmarried - tombstone was by her Mother Lavinia in the old Kirby Cemetery;
Delilah Kirby born abt. 1814 married Alexander Doak moved to Johnson Co. MO where she died;
Julia Ann Kirby b. 15 March 1816 died 8 Nov. 1905 buried Salem Church Cemetery in East Simpson Co. KY, she married 13 July 1835 Clinton B. S. Herrington, 10 children born to their marriage;
Margaret "Peggy" Kirby b. 15 April 1819 died 1 Jan. 1903 Allen Co. KY buried in Beech Grove Cemetery w/o a marker, she married twice, Julius Alfred Clarkson and Gasper Browning.Her fathers settlement of estate shows her married in 1847 Gasper Browning.
Proof for the marriage of Lavinia & William can be found at the Western Ky University Library in the Archives & Manuscripts Dept. The original hand written note from Baily Anderson giving permission for his daughter Lavinia to marry Mr. William Kirby is in this library. Also, in this library can be found the settlement of William Kirby's estate which names ALL his children with wife Lavinia and with second wife the Widow Clarinda Herrington Doak.
