The following notes about my Anderson lineage may also help others. I am looking for more info on the presumed Scottish origins of Austin Anderson (and perhaps also Relief Reed). anyone out there with information on any andersons in the following notes. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Austin Anderson from Scotland married Relief Reed of Potsdam, NY, before 1829 (Relief Reed possibly born in Scotland or of Scottish descent) Their son George Anderson was born Sept. 5, 1829-died Dec 26, 1905 George Anderson married Rebecca Ann Holmes in Potsdam, NY on Aug. 28, 1853. George and Rebecca moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan (date not known) and cleared 80 acres of farmland there. Their children attended school and then Kalamazoo College. Their children were: 1. Charles H. Anderson, born Sept. 30, 1854-died ?-4-1937 2. Willis Austin Anderson, born Oct 25, 1857-died Jan 21, 1889 3. Georgianna Anderson, born June 25, 1861, died Jan 11, 1872 *4. Genevieve Anderson, born Aug 14, 1863, died March 12, 1891 (age 27years, 5 mos., 26 days) 5. Edith S. Anderson, born Jan 31, 1874, died 1954
The Andersons moved to South Dakota -- date not known. Willis was a math professor at Kalamazoo College (did he stay there? Not known). Charles Anderson went to Pierre, North Dakota. *Genevieve married John P. Vogel in Mitchell, South Dakota, on June 26, 1883 at age 20. (These are the great-grandparents of Jill Vogel Svoboda, Marilyn Christine Bartel and Carolyn Eileen Austin. Edith married E. K. Rice on Sept. 26, 1889 and lived in Sioux City, Iowa and Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Genevieve and John Vogel were the parents of Willis Anderson Vogel, my paternal grandfather. (The Vogel family eventually returned to Toledo, Ohio, which was the second place they settled after my great-great-great grandfather George Vogel emigrated with his parents and siblings to the US in 1835.)
