Anderson (WW2 service number: 14070256) was member of USAAF during WW2, on detached service with Pathfinder Group, and was Assistant Flight Engineer aboard a C-47 troop transport returning from Italy, via Gibralter, to England on 22 August 1944.Aircraft arrived in England in heavy weather and pilot was unable to locate landing field. With 15 minutes remaining fuel and no visibility, pilot crashlanded aircraft in "the Wash" at the mouth of the Witham River near Boston, Lincolnshire. All survived.
I am in communication with the pilot, navigator andcrew chief of that plane.I have photographs of the plane being recovered from "the Wash".Would like to prepare an article about this incident as well as the story of the other two aircraft in this flight that were lost due to weather conditions.
Please reply directly to my email which is behind my name in this posting.
Thanks
