Augustus Walbus was born Dec. 6, 1852 in Copenhagen, Denmark to a German father and mother of Danish birth. He immigrated in 1870 according to his 1900 census and after settling in Chicago, he began working for the Baltimore and Ohio railroad on the tracks between Bremen and Nappanee, IN. Family history says Augustus changed his name to John Anderson, which was the name of his foreman, because he believe it sounded more American. He boarded with Bishop David H. Hochstetler's family and fell in love with one of the youngest daughters, Lovina Hochstetler. He followed the family to Newton Co., IN, learned the language, joined the Amish church, and married Lovina, Nov. 18, 1880 in Newton Co., IN. They were the parents of 10 children. All Amish Andersons descend from this Augustus Walbus AKA John Anderson. Anybody with any info on the ancestors or descendants would be appreciated.
