Can anyone tell me where Burton Anderson, b. ca. 1809 in Pendleton District, SC, and the son of Moses Anderson, was in the 1850, 1860 or 1870 censuses?
I find him in the 1880 Union Co., Georgia census: John REECE SelfMale70SCFarmerSCSC Mary REECE WifeFemale 67SCKeeping HouseSCSC Burton ANDERSON BroL Single 71 SCFarm Laborer SCSC Henry MORGAN Other 18GAFarm LaborerTNSC
The census shows Burton Anderson as "single" - if true, then he had not been married to a sister of John Reece (or Reese). And, as far as I have seen on mostly undocumented postings on the internet, Burton Anderson did not have a sister "Mary" - which means that the "brother-in-law" shown as their relationship is rather mysterious.
I hope that learning more about Burton Anderson might lead to a breakthrough in the identify of the currently unknown "Mr. Reese" to whom Rachel Anderson (daughter of John Anderson of Pickens District, SC, was married).
John Anderson lived in Pendleton Dist, SC, then moved to Habersham Co, GA for about 15 years before going back to Pickens Dist, SC, shortly before his death in 1840.
There is a disagreement about the identity of this John Reese - one possibility is that he was the son of a Peter Reese and Rachel Anderson ... but that is mostly speculation at this point.
I really am clutching at straws at this point - but it seems like finding out more about Burton Anderson might be helpful?
