There were (2) John Andersons in 1740 in the Orange (Augusta) Co VA records -
(l)John married to Jean/Jane that had recently immigrated from Ireland along with George Anderson. He was first documented Augusta 1740, giving his oath in order to receive land.
(2)John Anderson, son of Rev James Anderson.John was born abt 1722 in NYC and small child when Rev James Anderson was sent to Lancaster Co PA to form Donegal Presbyterian Church. In 1738, Rev James was sent to VA Governor with message regarding the Presbyterian movement.Governor granted Rev James Anderson 1000 acres Orange (Augusta) Co between Old Stone Church and near Tinkling Springs.Rev James died 1740 Lancaster Co PA.
Both of the John Andersons had children with many of the same given names, making it difficult to append them to the appropriate parents. There has been much written about John and Jean/Jane descendants when in fact, I believe, some of their "supposed" descendants could be of the Rev James Anderson line of Lancaster PA.DNA can sort that out.
I am descended from John, son of Rev James Anderson, and would like to hear from someone who has done research onthis John Anderson (from Lancaster Co PA) and his marriages and children. Also, John is found in land records for Prince William and Frederick counties (Northern Neck Grants).Have researched my direct line through John's son, Daniel.
Would like to know who Daniel's siblings were and to locate copy of his father John's will.
