Some researchers indicate that Theophilus was a Baptist Preacher, born in either New Jersey or Virginia, that he left Virginia in 1791-1792 and went to Madison County, Kentucky. Kentucky became a state in 1792. Madison county was created in 1785. Garrard County became a county in 1796 and was organized from 3 counties among which was Madison County. If Theophilus was a preacher, he must have maintained records and performed baptisms, marriages, etc. and submitted marriage returns to county clerks. Do such records exist? Has any ANDERSON researcher out there found such records?
Question 2: What record or account is there of his death? He is believed to have been killed in an Indian War. Does any ANDERSON researcher have a military account of his death? Or a contemporary published newspaper account?
Question 3:Where is Theophilus buried? Some researchers list Theophilus'burial location as Flemingsburg, Georgia while others as an "Indian Wars Cemetery" located in Fleming, Liberty County, Georgia. The Liberty County, GA Genweb database does not list an "Indian Wars" cemetery among cemeteries located within the county, nor do county histories mention any Indian wars around the year 1828.
