I am looking for any information about the Andersons of Wapello County, Ottumwa, Iowa who arrived from Sweden ca. 1891. The family story was written down as "Recollections" by my late grandfather in his later years and goes (embellished, I'm sure, but I'm trying all my leads!) something like this:
My grandfather's mother was born in 1891 around the time the family immigrated from Stockholm, Sweden. Her father was a general in the Swedish army, serving under King Gustav. The family name was Nojd, but my grandfather did not recall the rest of his name. The story goes that he got in trouble in a plot against the King, and was exiled along with his brother to the US, where they changed the family name to Anderson. My grandfather's only recollection is visiting Ottumwa when he was about 7 (would have been ca. 1922) and seeing "grandfather's splended uniform and his military sword". He had long since died. He said that his grandmother's name was Victoria Emerencia.
If there is any truth to these stories I would like to know. Any ideas?
