Hi-
My name is Barbara Stilt (Zour).I believe that John L. Anker MAY be my Great Great Grandfather.Perhaps you can provide confirming information or otherwise.
My Great Grandmother Wanda Barbara Hartford from Callapoose, PA was the daughter of a traveling preacher.
Family gossip has it that at about the age 15 she was pregnant by somebody whose last name was Anker. The gossip indicates that he may have been an indian.
I am not certain if she married Mr. Anker or not, but suspect she may have been so for a very brief period, as some obscure piece of data seems to refer to her as Wanda Barbara Anker.
At any rate, if the two of them were married, it must have been only very briefly, because the child born (in Detroit, Michigan) was named Margaret Louise Hartford (or Koch) and was raised by a Mr.Joseph Koch who (by that time) was in fact married to Wanda Barbara Hartford.
It must all have seemed very shameful at the time,(her being a preachers daughter and her lover being an indian and all) and so trying to find any information about this (apparantly) embarrassing piece of family history is like finding hen's teeth.
We've noted that there was a John A. Anker who was born on 2 Sep 1892; and because he was the right age, and apparantly in the right place at the right time, we've kind of wondered if HE may have been the father;and as we've noted than your Great Grandfather may have been a John L. Anker who was a Blackfoot indian, we were hoping that you could provide the missing information.
I know that this all sounds very complicated, but if you could provide ANY information, it would be really, really appreciated.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
Barbara Stilt
