Hello, Dorothy. We corresponded about Uriah some years ago. No,I never was able to discover the parents of Uriah.I finally "finished" my research on Aplin/Applin/.Appling families in the U.S. 1650-1900, and put my material on microfiche. It turned out to be 5,726 pages.I went through all the census indexes and other source indexes available to me, copiedmaterial on those three names (which are sometimes interchanged) andthen matched individuals into family lines.Uriah is labelled "unattached Applin family in Orleans County, New York in 1850 (line not traced to immigrant)"
My final conclusions on Uriah:
a) All three U.S censuses list his birthplace as Vermont, but the Canadian census lists him as "native of Canada of British origin".
b) My geographic file of Aplins/Applins shows three couples in Vermont of an age to be parents of Uriah, but none have a son in the age range of Uriah:Thomas (born 1785) and Mary (Fuller Applin; Thomas (born 1779) and Maary (Reynolds) Applin; Thoma/Oliver (born 1779) and Olive (____) Applin.
c) No other Aplin/Applin families in Vermont have a son anywhere near the age of Uriah.
d) None of the four families of Aplin/Applin listed in Orleans county in 1840 appear to be possible parents of Uriah.Abel, Abner and Israel are of an age to be brother of Uriah and might be, as their antecedents are not known either and I have them as progenitors of "unattached" lines.
