Also moving from Dorchester Co., SC to Palatka, Putnam Co., Florida in October 1882 were Richard Hiram and Elizabeth Summers Appleby and their four children: Mary Luella, John, Esther Etta and Martha.
Richard Hiram Appleby was the son of James Preston and Mary Pearson Appleby Jr. and the grandson of James Preston and Mary Lewis Rumph Appleby Sr. He died in Palatka in 1908.
Elizabeth Summers Appleby was the daughter of Daniel and Esther/Hester Rhode Summers of Dorchester Co. She was one of four children; she had three brothers, all of whom died in the Civil War. Elizabeth died in Palatka in 1912.
Mary Luella Appleby married a Milton Allen around 1893 in Putnam Co., Florida and had sons Shirsky/Shipsky, Harry and George Loren Allen.
John Appleby was age 40, living in Palatka and unmarried in 1910.
Etta Esther and Martha Appleby may not have survived to 1900, as Elizabeth Summers Appleby may have indicated on her census record that year (she says she bore two children, both living--but she may have misunderstood the census taker's question).
That is all the Appleby information I have. My husband is descended from one of Esther Rhode Summers' brothers. I have extensive information on the Rhode family--most of them moved to Indiana.
