Charlene, I was doing some research on the Genforum website when I noticed your name.I have some RAINS family from the area of Fannin Co., TX., around the Red River, Cherry Communities.
My ggg-aunt, Delilah Catherine TRAVIS, married a Martin VanBuren RAINS.(TRAVIS is my maiden name.)Anyway, Delilah or “Cate” as she was often called, was his second wife. They married in ARK after the Civil War ended as he got a land grant there.
Anyway, to make a long story short…The parents of Martin RAINS, are supposedly John W. RAINS & Lucinda HICKS (married in Elbert Co., GA. in 1828).
The parents of John W. RAINS, are supposedly Dabney RAINS and Barbara WHITE.Both are supposedly buried in the Old Martling Cemetery, Sand Mountain Area of Alabama.Dabney RAINS was originally from VA., but moved to GA., as a child.I say supposedly as I did not do the research on the RAINS family. This info was passed down to me via distant “cousins” whom I don’t know very well.
I saw that you have a Newman RAINS, and Newman's father was John R. Rains and his mother was Keziah DABNEY. I thought the Dabney name a great co-incidence!
On another issue….
I am looking for information regarding a George APPLEGATE.I see you are looking for one as well!
There was a George APPLEGATE, on the 1880 Census for Sumner Co., KS.He was living in the home of my husbands gr-grandfather Bennett BLAKELY/BLAKLEY.Although this George Applegate was married to a lady named Amanda.Could this be your George?
