Re: Clayton Applegate? Toms River NJ

Yes, that is the correct Clayton Applegate who married Catherine McCue, Benjamin F Johnson's widow.
No, Moses Johnson and Benjamin F Johnson were not brothers.
Many of the Johnsons of Toms River were descendents of William Johnson. My line William > Joseph > Charles > Benjamin F. But most of them had large families, and I don't have all of the descendents.

--If you mean Moses Johnson's wife, Catherine, and Manliff Applgate's wife, Louisa, I have no idea. Have no record of Manliff Applgate, either.
Have you tried the census listings in USgenweb archives? Maybe you can find your Margaret Colby Caldwell there. Ocean County was part of Monmouth County til around 1850.
For 1850 or later, try Ocean:

Can you explain where you find the place-name, "Tom's River Village, Lovallette"? I don't see where that is in the census record, and would like more info.
Thanks very much,
