5E1B11G. William P. Applegate, born June 15, 1831; died Apr. 9, 1896 at Rhode Hall, NJ. He married on Nov. 30, 1853 to Maria Louisa Kerr, born June 26, 1832 in New York City, NY; died at South Brunswick, NJ on Apr. 28, 1920, daughter of Isaac Kerr and Eliza Pittenger, and a decendant of Walter Ker, one of the first Scotch Presbyterians to settle in Monmouth Co., NJ. William brought his certificate for membership to 1st Presbyterian Church, Cranbury, NJ in 1859. During the Civil War, he enlisted in Co. C., 29th NJ Inf. on Aug. 25, 1862; was discharged on June 30, 1863 at Freehold, NJ. He served at Belle Plaines, Va. In the 1860 census, he was listed as a blacksmith; in 1870, a farmer with real estate valued at $5000 and personal property at $800
