I just stumbled across your posted request on Bertha Appleman , and thought I could help. Bertha Appleman was my great aunt, and contrary to your inquirery, she was not killed in action during WW2.She died on May 22, 1944 of a heart attack in the backyard of her sister Alice's home on Bloom Road in Danville, PA.Bertha was discharged from the army in the fall of 1943. She is buried in Odd Fellows Cemetary in Danville (burial was by the former Miller Funeral Home). My father was a pallbearer at the funeral, and provided this information.
