James-- I find the name of your ancestor James Thaddeus Appleton of particular interest.I am looking for clues as to why, or from whom, my g-g-grandfather James Appleton Mobley received his middle name. He was born 1844 in MS but his parents had just moved there from Lauderdale Co., AL., near the TN border. We have absolutely no other reference to the Appleton name other than the fact that his middle name was Appleton. His parents were Alfred Mobley and Jemima White. Could he possibly have been named for a favorite family friend or perhaps for a relative?James Appleton Mobley named one of his children (my grandfather) William Thaddeus Mobley, who in turn named my father Fealon Thaddeus Mobley. You can see why your James Thaddeus Appleton is of interest to me.Were your Appleton ancestors ever in TN/AL/MS during the early 1800s? --Larry Mobley Researching my MOBLEY, WHITE, APPLETON(?), GIBSON, ISAAC(S), BLAYLOCK, HICKS & WEATHERFORD family lines.
