Does anyone researching the APPLETON family in Leicestershire know of CHARLES APPLETON, who was born in Great Bowden, Leicestershire, England about 1800? His parents (according to his second marriage certificate) were WILLIAM APPLETON a manufacturer and his wife HANNAH SMITH.
About 1820 Charles married HANNAH UNDERWOOD in Northampton and lived there several years. Their first two children were born there, Charles Appleton (jnr) and Mary Ann Appleton (about 1821 and 1823 respectively). I don't know where the next one, Matthew Appleton, was born (about 1825), but it might have been 'at sea', en route for Hobart and Sydney in Australia. A daughter, Hannah, was born in Sydney in 1827, and a further daughter Rebecca was born there in 1829 but died the next year.
Charles returned to London about 1831 (after marriage breakdown) and in the 1830s was living at Loughton, Essex, England.
Charles later remarried - MARY JONES (born about 1813 in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England) and they had some eight children, of whom six were still living when Charles died in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia (they had arrived there in 1852) in 1873 'aged 73'. Mary died there in 1889 'aged 76'.
