APPLETON - NC/SC

Looking for the Appleton family connection for Bailey Appleton Dover b 1817 NC son of John Dover b abt 1793 SC. The only Appleton's I am aware of were in Mecklenburg Co., NC and old 96 in SC before or about 1800. Is there any connection between the Tennessee Appleton families and those in NC/SC?
