Claude was a son of Thomas Henry Appleton, born December 1862 in England, and Henrietta Wheeler. They had several children, with Claude and his twin sister Maudie, born on 28 January 1900, the youngest. On 29 January, both Maudie and their mother Henrietta died [childbirth complications]. 12 April 1900, Thomas remarried to Rosella Seale and had two more children. Rosella died ca 1906 and Thomas reportedly by 1909. Claude is found in his sister Algie Myrtle Wheeler's household in 1910 and 1920. In 1930 he is divorced and living with his younger sister, Esther Hutchcraft. Census locations: 1900 Chickasaw Nation, Twp. 3, Indian Territory, 1910 Tishomingo, Johnston County, OK, 1920 Garrett, Johnston County, OK and 1930 he was counted twice, both times with his younger brother Joe; Hobart, Kiowa County, OK on 14 April [they were in the county jail for some reason] and on 22 April they are with their married sister, Esther Hutchcraft, in Seminole County, OK.
