Re: Orahood from same migration route
TO: JUDITH ROYAL
Thanks for your quick response to my E-mail.There are lots of Orahoods/Arihoods/Orchards/Arahoods out west, and also in IN, in IA, in OH and all over. It’s spelled ARIHOOD in IN and IA.The IA people are descended fron Thomas ARAHOOD Jr, son of Thomas Sr.
There are a wide variety of spellings and all of these are descended from Alexander and Ethalen ORRHUD who came to the US about 1755.They had children Joshua, Thomas Sr., Caleb, Abigail, Ethelinda, Nancy, and Alexander Jr.I believe Alexander Sr. left Scotland after the Jacobite War of 1745.He had his wife Ethalen and sons Joshua and Thomas Sr. with him.
Thomas Sr. enlisted in the Revolutionary War in 1760 from Chester County, PA as Thomas ORCHEAD.They then appear in Hardy/Grant Co. WV, then on to OH and parts west.
My wife and I visited Thomas’ and wife Sarah’s graves in OH about three weeks ago in the abandoned CHRISTY/ROWE/YOUNG Cemetery in a cornfield near Frankfort, OH.His stone has “Thomas ORCHARD.”His daughter Ethalinda has a stone but is not buried there. My line is Thomas Jr. by Thomas Sr. by Alexander.(I believe)
Thomas Sr. had eight children including Amos Orahood.Amos Orahood had five children including William Jackson who had Harper M., Elisha, Mary, William E., and Ann.
Cheryl Cretin’s Web address is http://www.geocities.com/heartland/lane/6787/http://www.geocities.com/heartland/lane/6787/.This site includes the work of Mary Louise Riordan ORAHOOD who worked on the Orahoods for 30 years. It shows a lot of information on all of these people.
I’d like to find out any more information on these people that you may have.
