Re: Alice Arderne and John Denne
It has been debated about the ancestry of Alice Arderne, an ancestor of Col. Robert Wynne. Traditional genealogy has her father as Richard Arderne as stated in the Visitation of Kent. But not given in the Visitation of Kent are Richard's parents, who have been purported to be George Arderne and Catherine Palmer, which cannot be correct as George lived over 100 years after Richard. Alice Arderne married John Denne, and we have his will made in 1476, so we know what century Alice lived. For the researchers who are willing to"get it right", I thought I would share my latest finding in doing research in England. Taken from the SUSSEX ARCHEOLOGICAL COLLECTION, VOL 100, P. 132:
SUSSEX ARCHEOLOGICAL COLLECTION VOL 100, P. 132
Kyme Family of Lewes: Ralph Chantler, in 1596 as second wife, married Judith (Bap 1565 Petworth, buried 1622 Subdeannery, Chichester. Ralph Chantler was an Alderman at St. Olave, Chichester and was buried thee in 1601. He married first, as her second husband, Ann nee Tyggoll (buried 1592 St. Olave) who had married first, George Arderne, who came from Cheshire (probably Offerton near Stockport) and in his Chichester will dated 1554 asked to be buried in the churchyard of St. Richard, Chichester. His son, also George Arderne, was buried 1614, St. Andrews, Chichester. George Arderne (2) was Mayor of Chichester and married 18 Jan 1579/80 as her first husband, Catherine Palmer, neice of Sir Thomas Palmer of Parham, Kent.
George Arderne and Catherine Palmer did have a son named Richard, but he was baptised 21 Feb 1582 at St. Andrews, Chichester, Sussex, His baptism and those of George's other children are in the St. Andrews parish records.
Now don't ask me who our Richard Arderne's real parents were, as I have not been able to figure that one out after eight years of searching. I would welcome some help.
