Hi Mary - bad news I'm afraid.
Abraham Argent and Ann Westley did have a son John, who was born 13 April 1808 in Stambourne, Essex, UK. For a long time I too believed that this John was the one who emigrated to America. (I probably used the same source that you found.)
Unfortunately, however, when I checked the actual parish records for Stambourne, I found that Abraham and Ann's son John died in Stambourne, and was buried 10 January 1810, at less than 2 years of age. And there is no record of Abraham and Ann having a son Daniel, a daughter Susan, or for that matter another son John. So your John must have come from another Essex branch. (there are lots of Argents in Essex!)
In formation I had gleaned about "your" John is as follows (although you probably have all of this already):
Born 1808 Essex (but now we don't knpow exactly where)
Died 1870 Lincoln Co Missouri
Married - (1) Edna Commegys (1 Dec 1831) (children: Daniel born about 1832; Jonathan born about 1833);
- (2) Nancy Scott (7 Jan 1844);
- (3) Anna Gatenby Dixon (after 1867)
Good luck with your continued hunting.Peter
