I am African-American and doing some research on black relatives of mine who are descended from black female Arlines in Gates Co. North Carolina,which is just over the VA/NC State line from Nansemond Co.I have an Alice Arline born about 1855 to a Keder Arline and Lilda Rodgers.There were white Arlines living in Hasletts township about this time.There was a Mary Arline who owned about 5 or 6 slaves according to the 1860 Slave Schedules.I am hoping to connect to a white Arline who is from this same set of Arlines that lived in Gates Co. North Carolina.Perhaps then I will be able to find out more about my slave relatives and ancestors.
