Under the Charter of 1643, Benedict wasthe President of Portsmouth &
Newport May 1657 to May 1660 and again May 1662 to Nov 25, 1663.Under
the Royal Charter , he became governor Nov 1663 to May 1666, May 1669 to
May 1672 and May 1676 to Jun 20, 1678.He died in office.
