From my researches into emigrants to Brazil, I have come across a few references to the Ashlin family.
In 9/1877 Vincent Ashlin was seeking to be married by the British Consul at Rio Grande do Sul, though he was unsure of his authority.
In 1914 Charles H Ashlin, born c1892 at Rio Grande do Sul, was working as a secretary for Rio de Janeiro Light & Power and made a trip via New York to Toronto, Canada, paid for by the company - his brother-in-law J A Read also worked for the same company in Rio de Janeiro.
More well-known was William R Ashlin, one of the founders of the Rio Grande do Sul Sport Club in 1900 (the oldest specific football club in Brazil). Was that the same William Ashlin, born in Brazil, who appears as an insurance clerk in the 1901 Birkenhead census?
I would welcome a more comprehensive view of the Ashlin family in Brazil.
