Yes, I'm writing from the US, so I understand the difficulties involved in getting info "long distance".I've tended to work with other "family" members whenever possible, since I've discovered several have this interest in family history, and are quite willing to share what they have. Some of my contacts are in the UK, but I also correspond with "co-descendants" of various couples who make up the basis of my ancestral lines, who are located in other countries.
I haven't yet found out much about my Askew cousins, those still living, that is.I really didn't get so involved in genealogy until after I "retired", and realized I'd lost contact with many people I'd grown up with.I wasn't brought up around the Askews, in fact I barely remember my grandfather or my first cousins on that "side".After my mother passed away, in 1999, I fell heir to some of her "memorabilia", and have been trying to make use of it to learn more about her early life, which she rarely spoke of.
It CAN prove quite expensive, all this research, so I'm always grateful for any assists I get from other enthusiasts, and willing to return such favors where I can.I'm developing quite a list of "genealogy friends" in that way.My husband says I'm essentially still doing the kind of thing I did when I was "working for a living", since I worked as an auditor for 15 years.Poring over old records, and trying to make sense of strange entries is pretty much "old hat" for me!
Besides, I'm collecting my own descendants now - my eighth
grandchild is scheduled to arrive a month from now, but she'll be making her appearance in Germany!
I suggest we keep in touch using personal email from now on, OK?My email address is displayed next to my name!
