Dear Holly,
I have just discovered this Genforum, through a bit of browsing on Google, where periodically relations of mine are mentioned.
I live in Cornwall, England, but am currently on a UN mission in Tajikistan ([email protected])
What a diligent searcher you are. I was interested to learn of your Yorkshire trip in search of links with Flora Jane Askwith line. I did a similar trip to the village of Askwith in 1976 and then 1997, and hope to go back and look a bit harder for some of my ancestral links in the Ripon area.
My full name is Thomas Michael Noad Askwith (b. 15.12.45)and am descended from a couple of William Askwiths of Ripon c. 17th century, buried in Ripon Cathedral churchyard, which you do not seem to have visited on your travels.
One of them had fifteen children (of which seven became Reverands, 2 became missionaries in India, and one married a missionary - how about that for ecclesiastical links!.The eldest one was Thomas Askwith, (Thomas I), followed by anothr Thomas (Thomas II), then Thomas Nowell Askwith (killed at Ypres in 1917), and my father Thomas Garrett Askwith (born 1911, and still going quite strongand will be 90 in May 2001. I am thus Thomas V and my son Thomas Myron Oliver, born 1973, is Thomas VI.
I am presently doing family tree research on my ancestors, for which we have a family tree, going back to 1688, and quite a few interesting artefacts, pictures, and records. This family tree was prepared in 1920, and we have another parallel one on the family of Lord George Ranken Askwith, descended from Gen. William Harrison Askwith, who was a brother of Thomas II, I believe.
I have recently put all the descendants of my line - from Thomas Askwith around 182? - 1888 onto an A4 sheet, thanks to Visio software.I would be happy to attach it, or a Word copy of it, in my next communication.
Can anybody advise me if this is possible?
I have been in touch with Stephen Berry, who I see was mentioned in one of the letters posted on this site, but I don't think that we are related.
For those living in Canada, one of the 15, John Edgar Askwith emigrated to British Columbia in the 1920s.All trace seems to have been lost of him.Can anybody give any clues or leads to what happened to him, and who his descendents might be.We are having an Askwith family gathering for my Dad's 90th, and would be interesting to learn if there are any descendents from his line.
My next project is to write up a family history of as many of the people mentioned, using archives, letters, photos, certificates which have been handed down to me over the years.
Look forward to hearing from any of you. Please write to the [email protected] address until 5 February, copied to the above freeserve one, and thereafter just to the fresserve one.
With best wishes
Michael
