Joseph Astling was born on February 12, 1844 in Harby, Nottingham, England. He was married on September 19, 1872 to Ann, Anne, or Anna Lawrence in Leeds, England. He died August 19, 1930 in northern Illinois, USA. Ann, Anne or Anna, Lawrence Astling (I have seen her first name spelled three ways. If anyone has a document with the correct spelling of her name I would appreciate a copy of it.) was born March 13, 1854 in Leeds, England. She died in June of 1944 in northern Illinois, USA.Their children were Fred, George, Fannie, John, Jennie, Harry or Armitage David, William, Elizabeth, and Sara.
The family emigrated to America from Leeds, England sometime between April 1888 and June 1890. I have deduced this through birth records of the children, but am still seeking information regarding their date of arrival in America and the name of the ship on which they sailed. To date, I have not found their names listed on immigration ships passenger lists.
I have also found a possible ancestor, another Joseph Astling who was a blacksmith in Hardy, Nottingham, England. I have not been able to find the documentation to connect him to our family, yet. Maybe some of our relations in the UK will have information about him.
The children of Fred Astling and Minney Hussey were Joseph William and Ethel. Fred divorced Minnie and later married Ione Dimmick. Their children were Arlene, Lucille, and Charles. Joseph William Astling, Fred's eldest son moved to Miami, Florida in 1926. His descendants are known to be in Colorado, Florida, Nevada, North Carolina, Texas, and Virginia.
The children of George Astling and Elizabeth Venderburgh were Kennth, Clifford, Donald, and two daughters still living. Their descendants are known to be in Illinois, Texas, Florida, and Washington state.
Fannie Astling was married to Albert Hammerschmidt. John Astling married Minnie Huntosh, Elizabeth Astling married William James Pratt. Sara Astling married Harry Loomis Sabin and had eleven children. (The Sabin family has created a web site with extensive genealogical data.)
Harry or Armitage David Astling was married to Lois Harms. Their children were Midge and Sharon. (The Harms family also has a family home page.)
Most of these family members lived in northern Illinois or southern Michigan.
Before all the family information is lost, we would like to gather what we can and save it for our descendants. We will be uploading some genealogical data to a family web site to share. We have some photos, including one of the Partriarch, Joseph, withsome of his sons on their farm in Illinois.
If you are related to this family or have documents regarding them, your assistance would be appeciated. You can start by posting a message right here!
Thanks for helping us honor our ancestors by preserving our memories of them for the future.
