The Maud Horn book made some undocumented assumptions about the ancestry of the New Jersey Atchley family which need correction.
The progenitors of the New Jersey Atchley (Ashley) family were Thomas Atchley and Ruth Maple, who m. ca. 1720, NJ.Thomas Atchley was b. ca. 1695; d. 1775, Middlesex Co., NJ; will dated Aug. 31, 1771, probated Feb. 6, 1775, names children.Ruth Maple b. ca. 1698, Burlington or Middlesex Co., NJ; d. before 1771.He was a freeholder, New Brunswick, Middlesex Co., NJ, Dec. 1752.

3. Benjamin Atchley
4. Jesse Atchley
5. David Atchley
6. Daniel Atchley
7. Ruth Atchleym. Anthony Burros (Burrows).
Thomas Atchley is believed to have emigrated as a young man from Scotland or England, probably a bit prior to 1720.
Will of Benjamin Maple Sr. Of New Brunswick, Middlesex Co., NJ, dated May 13, 1727, probated Sept. 8, 1727 (NJ Archives.Wills.Vol. I) names eldest dau. Ruth Ashley.
Will of Thomas Atchley, dated Aug. 31, 1771, probated Feb. 6, 1775 (NJ Archives.Vol. XXIV; Wills Vol. V, 1771-1780, page 22).
Francis Bazly Lee (Genealogical and Personal Memmorial of Mercer ounty, New Jersey", Vol. I, p. 323) states that Thomas Atchley was progenitor of the New Jersey family.
