Thanks for the information. Atchley is not among my surname list, just found a short obit for a Civil War vet in a local newspaper archive and posted it-hoping it might help some reseacher.
The Rose Hill Cemetery is the one for Ardmore, Carter Co., OK--the article did not mention shipping the body elsewhere; the name was the "winner" selected from a list of suggetions held over 100 years ago--the Daily Ardmoreite published the suggestion list and Rose Hill was selected--if the name is related to your area in Missouri?? Rose Hill is the name for several cemeteries, especially in the South where many of the early settlersorginated. The Confederate Home for the veterans was built in Ardmore due to the influence of the local Confederate veterans. Some of the local Union veterans were taken to the Federal Home in Kansas--found one item of a local deputy escorting an aged Union vet to the Kansas home, not even a family member to accompany him. The local Confederate home provided shelter and services for the vet's family members, including widows and aged dependent children.
