Hello,I am trying to find information about Martha Ater, widow of Eli Ater that was from central IL and came to MO sometime in the later 1870's.They hadchildren that came with them,at least Ed, (Edward) and Jesse.Eli must have died sometime late 1880s as Lorene was born in MO in 1886/7 and it is rumored that they had Roy before that.I do not have any information on Roy's birth supposedly in Vernon Co.or Eli's death.Martha was running the Boarding house by 1910 and Lorene and Ed and Jesse were all living there along with nephew Hoyt Ater born in Ohio.
I do have a wonderful picture of Martha and Lorene taken in Webb City MO (date not known) but Lorene was young under school age.I have been trying to fit Lorene into the Ater family for more than 18 years!!
In 1915 she was in the City Directory running the boarding house. In 1920 she had married Jesse Hamilton Coplin, (born IN,need that info if anyone has access, Ed was gone and Jesse was still living there.and Lorene was married (and living next door) Delmar H. Clark, born Neb.
In 1930 Martha was dead, at least gone from the census and Jesse Coplin was alone next door to Delmar and Lorene Clark. No children to the Clarks. And Jesse and Ed Ater, and Hoyt were gone from the household. They do not show up in another census and do not show that they ever married.
Any information appreciated and if you connect will be glad to share all the IL info, back to Ohio.Thank you. Any information about books to check marriages in or papers to check obits in,trouble is do not have a death date to work on or marriage dates to ask courthouse to check.
