SALLY ATHERTON married NATHANIEL KIDDER July 10, 1808 in Lancaster, Worcester County, Massachusetts, son of JOSEPH KIDDER and MARY WHITE.He was born March 19, 1771 in Dunstable, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, and died October 1, 1855 in Oxford, Butler County, Ohio.
Nathaniel Kidder went from Dunstable to West Prospect (later Searsport), Waldo County, Maine, where he became active in town affairs, serving as justice of the peace in 1805 and 1806.About 1837 he moved to Ohio, settling in Oxford where he lived until his death.He was an ardent Unitarian and in 1846 wrote a pamphlet in advocacy of that faith.His death was occasioned by a fall from an apple tree while gathering fruit.

Nathaniel Kidder was interested in shipping in the early days of California, and in 1850 sailed the ship "Mary Reed" around Cape Horn to San Francisco, San Francisco County, California.He settled in Sacramento before 1853 and became prosperous.For some time he was harbor master.Prior to his removal to the West Coast he had lived in Prospect and Searsport.
