1.ELIJAH2 ATHERTON(ELIJAH UNPROVED1) was born July 25, 1780 in Stoughton, MA, and died December 13, 1852.He married RUTH TISDALE April 01, 1803 in Stoughton, Norfolk, Massachusetts, daughter of EBENEZER TISDALE and JOANNA DRAKE.She was born June 26, 1785 in Sharon, Massachusetts, and died June 18, 1824.

Could he be the founder of: Malcolm & Parsons Insurance Agency, Inc. trace our roots to the spring of 1825 when Elijah Atherton starts offering insurance to individual and businesses in South Eastern Massachusetts. Elijah was a student of Benjamin Franklin. Emulating Mr. Franklin, an incorporator of the first mutual insurance company in America in 1752, Elijah was one of five original Agents appointed by Norfolk Mutual Insurance company, later the Norfolk & Dedham Insurance Group (one of many companies we still do business with today.

2.JANE3 ATHERTON (ELIJAH2, ELIJAH UNPROVED1) was born June 06, 1818 in Stoughton MA, and died April 16, 1864 in Stoughton MA of consumption.She married LEONARD HODGES January 12, 1847 in Stoughton MA, son of SAMUEL HODGES and LUCINDA AUSTIN.He was born January 08, 1794 in Taunton, Ma, and died March 01, 1871 in Stoughton MA, a widow, of paralysis.
buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton.

Notes for LEONARD HODGES:
Leonard lived in Taunton until 1820 when he moved to Stoughton and established himself there as a jeweler.About 1822 he began to manufacture satinets in a small way, and gradually increased his works.After a few years he began to make hosiery yarns, extending the business from year to year until he became one of the largest and most successful manufacturers in Stoughton.He retired from active business in 1851 and in 1857 he sold his mill and closed his connection with manufacturing.For many years he was a Director of the Neponset Bank of Canton.He was very able, shrewd and careful business man, not fond of display or of public office, quiet and reserved in his intercourse with others; bur he possessed untiring industry, great strength of character and steadfastness of purpose; and he was able to accumulate one of the largest properties owned by a private individual in Stoughton,built "The Maples" estate on land from his wife's grandfather."Hodges Family of New England - Taunton Branch, 3rd edition" by Arnold D. For generations back the Hodges and Simmonds were members of the Stoughton Masonic Lodge.Mr. Hodges, Sr. supported the(Lodge?) for many years when they were in financial difficulty.
