THERE IS OF COURSE NO DOUBT THAT MAJOR GENERAL HUMPHREY ATHERTON EXISTED AND THAT HE DIED 1661.
It is more than probable that Humphrey was born in South Lancashire but as you can see in just 2 South Lancashire Parishes there are many men so named, who may have had unrecorded sons named Humphrey.
I seek to trace where Humphrey was born but online sources are of no value as they refer to no original source material and they often conflict with one another.
I am in Lancashire ,England.
As i understand it Humphrey arrives in America circa 1636 and it would be a great help to me if i knew FOR CERTAIN that he arrived with a wife named ---- or a child named---- who married in the year----.
I have read the "inquisition post mortem" for Edmund Atherton and if his son Humphrey is the Major General to be then the task I have set myself will be simplerbut I cannot escape the fact that there are yet more men named Humphrey Atherton in other parishes but I think I have "posted" quite enough to demonstrate the "depth" of my interest.
