Are Timothy Mather's and William Weeks's Marriage documents available from trustable sources?
Timothy Mather is supposed to have married Catherine or Elizabeth Atherton in (perhaps march 20)1648 0r 1649, 0r 1650, or 1651.Timothy Mather seems to have had six children between 1650 and 1653.At least the last child Atherton Mather born 1653 can safely be considered a grandchild of Humphrey Atherton by virtue of his name.
Timothy Mather is usualy believed to have married once or twice more, sometimes to Elizabeth Weeks widow of William Weeks who's maiden name was Elizabeth Atherton. My first post on the thread is about Timothy Mather's marriages and confused genealogy.
Every online Weeks Genealogy says that William Weeks married Elizabeth Atherton daughter of Humphrey Atherton. They had 14 children, the first being born 1651 and the last being born 1671.
William Weeks died in 1677. William Weeks's Brother Joseph married Mary Atherton.
Could all the Weeks /Weekes genealogies be wrong about who William Weeks married?
I wonder how the administration of the estate being fourty years after the death affected the wording?I still think Catherine probably existed, but then there should have been a share for the assigns of Catherine Mather and a share for the assigns of Elizabeth Mather.Maybe some clerk got confused. Thank you Sharon for Humphrey Atherton's "Will":
From the will of Humphrey Atherton, it does not appear that he had a daughter, Catherine.
This is from Early Suffolk Wills as published in the NEHGS Register Vol 32 published in 1878:
This is from court papers during the administration of the estate in the 1715 -1720 time frame.
