I hesitate to post an amendment but there is no record of the baptism of a John Athertonin December 1627 or for that matter any child of a man named Humphry Atherton in the registers of Winwick,Lancashire.
However in the Parish Register the baptism of john son of Humphrey Atherton is recorded on 28th December 1628 and on the Bishops copy of the register the 26th is recorded but both agree December 1628.
I think modern transcriber was perhaps unaware from the 1st January to the 24 March 1628 in the old church calander was still recorded as 1627, when in the civil it was of course 1628 , and perhaps carried on recording 1627 and missed the year change in the first entry after the 24th of March to 1628.
If this is in any doubt , just check the microfilm copy of the register that the Church of L D S will have. There are few Athertons in Winwick in the period 1563 to 1635 .
Returning to John ,it is sad for me to record that he lived less than 6 months and is recorded in the burial register on 16 June 1629.
There was another John Atherton in Winwick at the same time and he died in 1632 leaving a widow Ann and two young children Thomas and William .
