I thought that I would revisit this website and look for any new leads.Having read our correspondance, I would like to add that the name Moses Atherton is found in the Ohio County, KY court records on the Robert Howard estate papers of 1815. Moses Atherton, John Shultz, William Rogers and Thomas Howard were the signers of the Inventory of the Robert Howard Estate in July of 1815.
I have also found a mention of a late 1790s marriage record of a Moses Atherton and Nancy Howard.Moses must have been related to Diana Atherton Howard, the wife of Robert Howard. There is also a John Atherton mentioned in those court records.
Although Robert Howard and Diana Atherton had a daughter named Nancy that daughter was was born September 23, 1889 and married Joseph Shultz on August 31, 1822 in Ohio County, KY.Now she may have been named for the wife of Moses Atherton.
As I mentioned earlier Thomas Howard the oldest son of Robert and Diana married Sarah Atherton and was part of the migration to Illinois with Aaron and Christina Atherton and their Baptist Church. In the 1820 Census of Alexander County, Illinois it shows William Biggerstaff, Moses Atherton, Samuel Atherton and Martin Atherton. We do know that William Biggerstaff the eldest son of Thomas Biggerstaff married Elizabeth Atherton in Ohio County, KY on Noverember 14, 1811.Elizabeth and Sarah Atherton were sisters and the granddaughters of Aaron and Christina Atherton.
The most confusing thing about the Atherton is that certainly repeat names in each generaation but that also helps to track them. The Atherton, Howards, and Biggerstaffs intermarried for generations and that helps and confuses.
Now to add more confusion.Sarah howard the daughter of Robert and Diana Howard married Aaron Biggerstaff.Aaron was also a son of Thomas Biggerstaff and Mary Young.Thomas Biggerstaff lived on land South of the Green River and had it surveyed and claimed September 1796.Aaron's mother died shortly after his birth.Aaron's sister Mary married Moses Atherton.Aaron Biggerstaff and Sarah Howard were married January 20, 1822 in Alexander County Illinois.Sarah arrived in Alexander County where her brothe Thomas had married Sarah Atherton.Sarah and Aaron Biggerstaff did a lot of buying and selling of land.17 Nov 1835 must have been the last land transaction made in Illinois before they migrated to Arkansas.Their son Aaron Biggerstaff, III was born in Ark.
If I ever get these people sorted out it will be a miracle.I have some clues and am still trying to sort out the parents of Robert Howard and the parents of Diana Atherton Howard Leach.
